🎙️Polished and Professional: Elevate Your Online Presentations with Terry Winship
Video:
Becoming better at what we do is a goal we as speakers never outgrow. At the PSASA Virtual Chapter’s first meeting of 2025, our members and guests kicked off the year with a potent crash course in presenting (even) better — online.
Our wildly popular guest speaker was Terry Winship, a Microsoft Certified Trainer, the dynamic force behind Mudita Concepts, and recipient of the Virtual Chapter’s Zoom Master award in 2024.
Terry packed hours’ worth of content into this powerful presentation, and the feedback from the audience was phenomenal.
Here are some of Terry’s most useful tips for presenting online in Zoom — and making the most of Zoom meetings you attend.
If you need to see it for yourself, visit the PSASA Virtual Chapter video recording of the session on YouTube for Terry’s full discussion with demonstration screencasts here.
Terry’s General Tips for Zoom:
- Use the Zoom app on your laptop or desktop, rather than the browser or smartphone version.
- Make sure you’re on the latest version of Zoom.
- If possible, use two or even 3 screens.
- Keep it simple! There’s less that can go wrong. This is especially true if you’re not very confident with tech.
Presenting in Zoom:
- Rearrange your screen so you can see your chat and other settings for slides.
- Explore the many options Zoom offers that are hidden behind arrows on your Zoom screen.
- Your settings for one presentation usually carry over to your next session… but you will always want to double-check first.
- You can appear in front of or to the side of your slides in four different layouts using Zoom’s Screen Share settings.
- If you will be presenting with your image in front of your slides, design your slide layout with this in mind.
Attending Presentations in Zoom:
- You are the captain of your own ship! You can take control of your own screen in Zoom to make more of the meetings you attend.
- Use the “View” button at the top right of your Zoom meeting room window to choose whether and where you want to see only the presenter and other participants. Your chosen view is for your eyes only: it will not affect the presenter or other participants’ screens.
Conclusion/Summary
This Virtual Chapter meeting enjoyed a great turnout and delighted feedback, with good reason. Terry Winship is the ideal guide to elevating your presentations this year and beyond.
