Do You Really #StandOut as a Speaker?
Guest Speaker: Chantal Cornelius
Are the things you think make you stand out as a speaker really the things that get you booked? In a competitive industry, what makes you different from anyone else? Your audiences have a choice. Why would they choose you? How will they benefit from what you offer? You can either confuse them, or make it easy for them by attracting attention and building relationships by making them feel the way they want to feel. PSA UK President and marketing maven Chantal Cornelius delivered outstanding value in this presentation.
Most of our clients make buying decisions based on emotions. When you know what emotions your clients want to feel when they work with companies like yours, you can use these emotions in your marketing, to make it much more reliable and effective & improve your sales conversion rate.
Chantal shares her 5 stand-out strategies for creating emotional connection. In her test (www.AppletreeUK.com/take-the-test) she invites you to identify how your clients feel about working with you. If you don’t know how your clients feel, ask them: “How do you feel when you work with me?” and listen for the emotional words. It’s all about the emotion. The client must feel that you “get them”.
- Certainty: Clients book you because you’re a safe bet — someone who delivers clarity and confidence.
- Connection: (not with the audience). This is about bringing people together where they feel a sense of belonging and “at home”.
- Contribution: They feel a part of something bigger / are able to give back / pay it forward (like charities).
- Growth: This is when clients see you as someone who will facilitate their personal and / or professional advancement.
- Significance: Your clients feel seen and heard (acknowledged) and able to make a bigger impact because of you.
Emotional connection is achieved by making them feel the way they want to feel. The test helps you identify the strategy that works best for you and Chantal advises that you stick to it and use it in your marketing to identify your ideal client and what they want.
Top 3 Takeaways
- Understand the importance of building strong relationships with your clients;
- Learn why it’s not about you, but about your audience;
- Gain a unique insight into building emotional connections with your clients, which can allow you to build the strong relationships you need.
About Guest Speaker Chantal Cornelius
Chantal is a Fellow of the PSA UK and also their National President. She works with companies that constantly find it difficult to win new business. They are great at what they do, with an established reputation and yet they can’t attract new clients easily. They see other people doing what they do, charging more for a lower quality service.
