The Joburg chapter Meeting took place on Thursday 15th August at the Excellerate Head Office in Hyde Park. Guest Speakers were Sue Fuller-Good and George Mutendadzamera.

PSASA’s Johannesburg Chapter recently hosted a vibrant meeting centred on the theme of mindfulness, a crucial skill in today’s fast-paced world. The gathering was a deep dive into how mindfulness and balance are not just wellness buzzwords but essential tools for personal and professional success.

Sue Fuller-Good on Exploring Mindfulness and finding the sweet spot.

Sue Fuller-Good opened the session with a compelling discussion on mental power and consciousness, emphasizing that being fully present is the most effective way to engage with our current realities. Sue’s insights shed light on how mindfulness can be a transformative force, aiding individuals in navigating their daily lives and careers with greater awareness and intention.

She touched upon the concept of balance and its fleeting nature, suggesting that deliberate efforts to find equilibrium can significantly boost one’s chances of success. Sue’s advice was clear: we should not be hindered by the fear of stepping off the metaphorical brake but should instead embrace the opportunities that come with moving forward.

The Power of Being Charged and Ready

Sue also offered practical advice, likening personal energy management to maintaining a charged battery—always ready and equipped for the challenges and opportunities that come our way. Her talk encouraged continuous self-assessment and adjustment, mirroring the ongoing process of maintaining balance in life.

George Mutendadzamera on Setting and Achieving Big Goals

George Mutendadzamera, an executive and leadership coach, built on the evening’s theme by discussing his winning formula for thinking better and living better within six months. He pinpointed the common pitfalls of being overwhelmed by distractions and the external world, which often lead to a loss in focus and unmet goals.

George’s approach to Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) involves a clear focus on the ‘why’ and the ‘want,’ leaving the ‘how’ to unfold through actionable milestones. This method helps to clarify one’s role in one’s own dreams and the steps needed to realize them.

Harnessing Thoughts for Better Results

Highlighting the capacity of the brain to become conditioned by perceived limits, George urged attendees to use their thoughts strategically to influence their actions and outcomes. He stressed that the stories we tell ourselves can either limit us or propel us towards our goals.

Reflection and Learning

The evening rounded off with a reflective session where attendees pondered two critical questions: “What have I learned?” and “How have I grown from this?” posed by Nikki Bush. This part of the meeting was not just about introspection but also about applying these insights for growth and improvement.

The meeting was not just an opportunity to learn but also a moment to practice mindfulness amidst peers. It served as a reminder that every challenge and interaction is a chance to apply mindfulness for better outcomes in both personal and professional contexts.

This PSASA Johannesburg Chapter meeting was a testament to the power of mindfulness and balance in achieving sustained success and well-being. The insights shared by Sue Fuller-Good and George Mutendadzamera offered practical strategies and reflections that each attendee could take away and apply in their own lives, ensuring the continuous quest for balance and fulfilment in an ever-changing world.
