Our Cape Chapter event in September, From Myths to Meaning invited guests to look a little deeper — beneath the buzzwords, beyond the easy answers — and into the stories we tell ourselves about business, success, and life itself.
It wasn’t just an event. It was a conversation — one that challenged assumptions, sparked laughter, and left the room buzzing with fresh insight (and, yes, more than a few “aha!” moments).
Presiding with effortless charm was our MC, Alex Pryor, who kept the evening flowing with humour and heart.
First up: Making BBBEE Work for You with Lanaine Abrahams
Lanaine cut through the noise and misconceptions surrounding BBBEE, showing how it’s not a bureaucratic burden but a powerful lever for empowerment and growth. Her message was clear: BBBEE isn’t about compliance, it’s about opportunity, inclusion, and building something that lasts.
Next: Teaching Icarus How to Walk with Viv Vermaak
Only Viv could take ancient mythology, neuroscience, and mountain climbing, and somehow make it make perfect sense. With humour, humility, and her trademark storytelling flair, she grounded the myth of Icarus; reminding us that the real art of living isn’t in flying higher, but in learning how to stay balanced while we move forward.
Finally: Money and The Meaning of Life with Marc Rees
Marc took the stage to reframe one of our most loaded subjects: money. Rather than treating it as a mere tool or goal, he invited us to see money as a mirror. One that reflects what we value, how we connect, and what truly gives our lives meaning.
Three talks. Three lenses. One powerful theme: moving beyond myths toward meaning.
By the end of the evening, guests lingered long after the applause. Conversations deepened, perspectives shifted, and more than one person admitted they’d never think about success, business, or even money quite the same way again.
