Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa KZN Chapter President Colleen Wilson warmly welcomed members and guests to an evening centred around the power of storytelling, identity, and embracing one’s authentic voice.
The highlight of the evening was a moving and insightful session by Dr Gcina Mhlophe titled:My Story, My Power.
Owning, Sharing and Celebrating the Stories That Shape Who We Are.”
From the moment she entered the room, Dr Mhlophe captivated the audience with warmth, authenticity, and storytelling brilliance. She even sang for the audience, instantly reminding everyone why she remains one of South Africa’s most celebrated storytellers and performers.
Drawing from her upbringing, family influences, and personal experiences, she reflected on how stories shape identity, heal pain, and connect people across generations and cultures.
One of the evening’s most powerful moments came when she shared how, despite once disliking her voice during high school, she later learned to embrace both herself and her voice leaving the audience with a profound reminder:
“Fall in love with yourself.”
She also reminded members that storytelling is not simply about speaking, but about making people feel seen, heard, and valued.
The evening further highlighted the importance of preparation, communication, and authenticity in both speaking and leadership.
Earlier in the programme, Convention Convenor Brenden Cavanagh encouraged members to attend the upcoming PSASA Convention, highlighting it as a platform for growth, networking, and developing one’s speaking career alongside both local and international voices.
The chapter also supported Speaker Factor finalist Trishan Govender as she prepared for the semi-finals with her presentation, “Happy Inside and Exceptional Outside.” Members offered constructive feedback, encouragement, and support as part of the organisation’s commitment to growing aspiring speakers.
Our MC for the evening, Swastika Juggernath, guided the programme with confidence, warmth, and engaging energy, ending the evening with a well-facilitated networking activity that left members connecting long after the formal programme ended.
The PSASA KZN Chapter continues to create spaces where stories are honoured, voices are empowered, and speakers are encouraged to grow boldly into their purpose.
