Ctrl + Human: Reclaiming the Edge – October Cape Chapter Meetup

At a time when algorithms evolve faster than we can refresh a browser tab, the Cape Chapter gathered for an evening dedicated to something refreshingly rare: being unmistakably, powerfully human.

Ctrl + Human: Reclaiming the Edge brought us together to explore the one competitive advantage technology will never outpace: empathy, influence, creativity, and presence. And judging by the energy in the room, those human strengths are not just alive; they’re thriving.

Our MC, Kyle Jantjies guided the evening with warmth and wit and very human connection, treating us to his memories of meeting and engaging with both of our amazing speakers.

First to the stage was Joni Peddie with CAN DO Leadership: Unlocking the Human Edge AI Will Never Replace.

Joni is always a crowd favourite, and she didn’t disappoint. She delivered a vibrant, science-backed session that got heads nodding and ideas sparking. She unpacked the mental clarity, emotional agility, and physical vitality we need to stay adaptive in an age of relentless change. Far from doom-and-gloom futurism, Joni offered a grounded, energising reminder: the qualities that make us human are the ones that make us effective.

Next up: Paul du Toit, CSP with Unlock Influence: The 7 Keys to Persuasion.

Paul is PSASA royalty, and we were thrilled to have him join us. He cut through complexity with an actionable framework that every professional communicator needs in their toolkit. Influence, he reminded us, isn’t about performance, it’s about shaping commitment. Whether you’re moving an audience to belief or a client to a “yes,” persuasion remains the craft that separates a good speaker from a transformative one.

Two speakers. Two angles. One clear message: When you control your tech and your humanity, no system can outpace you.

As always, the evening wrapped with lively conversation, new connections, and that familiar Cape Chapter buzz – the kind that says people aren’t just learning; they’re levelling up.

If this October meetup proved anything, it’s that the future belongs to those who integrate the best of both worlds: machine efficiency and human depth.

See you at the next one.
And if you’re not on the mailing list yet… well, you already know what to do.
