The February PSASA Pretoria Chapter meeting brought together inspiration, reflection, and community as members gathered to explore one powerful question:
“What is the formula for life?”
Through thought-provoking conversations and powerful storytelling, the evening invited speakers and guests to challenge what they’ve been taught about success, rethink limiting beliefs, and reconnect with the unique strengths that shape their personal and professional journeys.
With two dynamic speakers and the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting, the evening blended learning, celebration, and leadership renewal.
Kofi Simpson – Rethinking Success and Exceptional Living
Guest speaker Kofi Simpson opened the evening with a compelling session exploring what truly makes people exceptional and how individuals define and achieve success.
Rather than presenting a rigid formula, Kofi challenged attendees to question the narratives society often teaches about achievement and capability. His message encouraged participants to reflect on their own assumptions about success and consider how diverse ways of thinking can unlock new possibilities.
At the heart of his talk was a powerful invitation to challenge limiting beliefs, embrace different perspectives, and take intentional steps toward a life aligned with your true strengths and values.
His message resonated deeply with the audience, reminding everyone that growth begins when we are willing to question what we thought we knew.
Vivienne Vermaak – The Speaker Factor Journey
Joining the meeting virtually was Vivienne Vermaak, the 2025 Speaker Factor winner, who shared her personal journey through the competition and the impact it has had on her speaking career.
Vivienne unpacked:
- what Speaker Factor is
- who can participate
- and how the experience challenges speakers to stretch their storytelling, stage presence, and authenticity.
Her story highlighted how competitions like Speaker Factor create opportunities for speakers to refine their craft, gain visibility, and build confidence.
More importantly, she reminded the audience that stepping onto the stage, whether in competition or in life, often begins with a simple decision: to show up.
Reflections from the Room
The evening sparked thoughtful reflections among attendees.
One participant shared:
“It was a very well-organised event. The meeting’s flow, the quality of the speakers, and the overall atmosphere made it a truly enjoyable experience. I particularly appreciated the diversity in the room and the opportunity to network with people from different backgrounds and experiences.”
Another attendee reflected on the deeper impact of the talks:
“What stood out for me was the impact speakers can have on others. When someone shares their story with honesty and intention, it can shift perspectives, inspire action, and create meaningful connection.”
They also highlighted an important reminder:
“Showing up matters. Whether on stage or in the audience, showing up creates opportunities for learning, growth, and connection. You never know how a message might resonate with someone in the room”.
Chapter Annual General Meeting
Following the speaker sessions, the Chapter held its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Members reflected on the year that was and celebrated the leadership and contributions that helped shape the Pretoria Chapter’s growth.
Special appreciation was extended to:
- Kakanyo Pilane, outgoing Chapter President, for her leadership and dedication
- Ian Bratt, who guided the financial report
- Bruce Moyo, whose energy as MC kept the evening flowing smoothly
The AGM also marked the nomination of the new Pretoria Chapter President for the 2026/27 term, ushering in a new chapter of leadership and continued growth for the community.
Final Reflections
February’s meeting reminded us that the speaking profession is empowered by perspective.
Through Kofi Simpson’s thought-provoking insights and Vivienne Vermaak’s inspiring journey, the evening reinforced that success is not defined by a single formula.
Instead, it is built through courage, authenticity, and the willingness to show up again and again.
And as the Pretoria Chapter continues into 2026 with new leadership and renewed momentum, one truth remains clear:
When speakers gather, ideas grow, voices strengthen, and possibilities expand.
