KZN PSASA Chapter – Blog Post: October Chapter Meeting

This month, the KZN Chapter gathered once again for an insightful session, centered around a theme crucial to all speaking professionals – Building Your Personal Brand. Our session welcomed just over a dozen attendees, including two newly joined members, Katy Mthethwa and Dr. Phiwa Xaba. Continuing to grow in strength, our KZN Chapter’s Leadership Committee was bolstered by the addition of Kavesan Pillay as our new Executive for Marketing Communications.

Our guest speakers, Briony Bosse and Terry Flack, both shared invaluable insights on personal branding, drawing from their vast experience in brand strategy and digital marketing.

Briony Bosse, a leading Business and Brand Management Consultant, emphasised that branding goes beyond visual identity alone. She challenged us to think of our brands as the intangible experiences we create through consistent touchpoints. Briony further noted that authenticity and self-awareness are key in defining and delivering on the promise of our personal brands. Her take-home message? Your brand is not just a logo; it’s a reflection of your truth and values.

Terry Flack, a digital marketing expert and entrepreneur, added a practical layer to the discussion by focusing on the importance of balancing relationships, reputation, and results. This is achieved through a strategic approach to one’s marketing, focused on three core pillars: Google Marketing, Social Media Marketing and Community Marketing. His advice to attendees wanting to add more value while standing out? Shift from the goal of being a market leader to becoming a thought leader. Terry also reminded us to keep it simple, while also measuring and optimising every marketing effort for maximum impact.

The mood of the meeting was warm, fun and collaborative, with the PSASA community continuing to embody its core values of Competence and Confidence. As we grow together, the lessons from this meeting will undoubtedly propel us to present our best selves – on stage, online and beyond.
