October Lunchtime Session
5 Oct 2021 @ 12:00 - 13:00 SAST

Dear members, colleagues and friends
Spring is in full swing, and now is the best time to sow the seeds to grow your most valuable asset: your community.
As a speaker, you have one of the most powerful voices to influence where people meet – whether it be in person or online. When it comes to the virtual world, you have many options: WhatsApp, Clubhouse, Zoom – all serving different purposes with different function sets.
In our next lunchtime bonus session, presented by PSASA nationally and hosted by the Johannesburg Chapter, BRYAN TURNER will demonstrate Discord. It is a great place to host your online communities – and has the functionality of WhatsApp, Clubhouse, and Zoom in one place. Best of all, there are no community limits and no time restraints.
Discord helps keep conversations on track. If there’s a topic, you can create a channel in your space for your community to discuss. From personal experience, Bryan reduced 8 WhatsApp groups to a single Discord space, freeing up his community’s WhatsApp channel for one-on-one conversations.
It will be an interactive session, in which Bryan will take questions after his initial introduction and overview of the platform.
Warm regards
Arthur Goldstuck

Create community spaces that matter with Discord – Bryan Turner
PSASA member, content creator and gaming livestreamer Bryan Turner will be showing the power of Discord, and how he has used the platform to grow his community from 0 to 300 active members over the past year.
The session will cover the ins and outs of Discord, how to use it effectively, how to guide conversations, and participate in collaborative sessions (with no time limits). It will also provide guidance on how to deal with bad actors effectively, without making too much noise around dealing with them.
