Another January has come and gone and we are still here in the PSASA working diligently to provide our members and all the speaking community around Southern Africa, a great year of meetings world class speakers, workshops, and social events.
The main focus is now on the convention, of course, and what a great line up of speakers Bronwyn has accumulated for us to listen to and learn from. It will be a fantastic event so don’t miss it.
I have been in this business for 23 years and January is always the same. I start the year wondering how I am going to feed the children this year. Where is the money coming from to pay the bond and what am I going to do with all this spare time. If that is how it feels for you don’t worry, you are not alone. Some of our members have bookings for years in advance but they are few and far between. For the rest of us we have to work very hard at the beginning of the year to remind our clients that we are still here, let the bureaus and agents know that you would welcome a gig or two and convince the family that work will begin to flood in as the year progresses.
We are now at the end of January the bookings are coming in. For many of us last year was hard but this year is looking much better already. Time to rework that keynote and bring your stories up to date, phone your regular clients and offer a new and exciting approach to up-skill their team or get stuck into finishing that book you have been procrastinating over for years.
This is where the PSASA can help. Go to the regular meetings and chat to the other members. There is always someone who has had experience of the problem you are trying to solve. This may also be a good time to get together with likeminded members and form a mastermind group. There is nothing better to keep ourselves motivated and reach the heights we deserve.
This is my antepenultimate president’s contribution to the newsletter (look it up!) and we are beginning to wind up the programme I promised you at the convention last year. Next week you will be getting a reminder to propose people for the two awards we have at the convention. Please take this seriously and consider who will be the best candidates to win the awards.
If you have not booked for the convention do so now. It will be a great convention in an amazing hotel with incredible speakers.
See you there.
