Dear PSASA members, the theme for the year 2013/14 for the Gauteng chapter will be DEVELOPING CAPACITY as a SPEAKER. To have the powerful mental capacity to be a successful speaker/trainer and to work effectively in a competitive South African and International environment. We will look at the capacities of focus, motivation, handling stress, handling success, work productivity/ethics, human relations, preparedness etc.
The first 2 speakers I have lined up for us are Ray Funnell and Mark Cunningham. Ray is a Leukaemia survivor and has an incredible story of overcoming this dreaded disease and becoming a mountain climbing adventurist and he will share with us his story and that we must never “LOSE OUR DREAMS”. From Ray we must learn to develop the capacity to work through and overcome difficulties, and with that become and remain successful.
Mark won the 2011 thought leadership award in Texas against international competition; he will share with us as speakers on how to develop the capacity to become thought leaders and inspire our audiences when we engage them.
Ray Funnell is a 48 year old Leukaemia survivor on a mission to beat the odds and climb the highest mountain in each continent. His simple wish is that these adventures will inspire and motivate other cancer survivors and people to “Never Lose Your Dream!!”. Last year he launched a website called www.summit7.co.za to share his adventures. It is amazing where this dream has taken him over the past two years!
Ray dreamt of climbing high mountains while lying in a hospital bed enduring the rigors of high-dose chemo-therapy and a bone marrow transplant in a desperate attempt to save his life. Now, five years later, Ray is living out his dream and heading for the top of the world, literally! Snowshoes, Sunglasses, Scarves and Beanies stuff. Ray is very passionate about giving back and thanking the donor community that helped save his life and regularly speaks at SANBS and The Sunflower Fund (SA Bone Marrow Registry) events.
While not climbing mountains, Ray is a full-time professional engineer with BBE Consulting responsible for the design of large mine cooling systems in Brazil, USA and South Africa.
Mark is the National Director of Profiles International South Africa. He is a certified Executive, Sales and Life Skills Coach. In 2011 he was awarded the “Thought Leadership”Award against international competition at the Profiles International Convention held in Texas, USA. Mark is also a specialist in human assessments and human development. He is a professional member of the PSASA, and is a highly skilled speaker and teacher.
