Pretoria Chapter Meeting
26 November @ 19:00 - 21:00 SAST| Free – R200
Warm greetings to you, PSASA Members, Speakers and Friends
It is unbelievable that we are already in November 2020, where did the time go? The Pretoria Chapter has the honour of hosting Past PSASA President and Past President of the Pretoria Chapter, Ross Saunders! He is an expert on Data Privacy and Online Security and will speak to us on the topic given the recent enactment of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Please join us to hear him speak!
Theme: POPIA and Speaking – What do you need to look out for?
POPIA was signed into law on the 1st of July 2020, meaning that instead of being some abstract requirement in the future, it is now very real. We are currently a third of the way into the grace period, which ends on the 1st of July 2021. Every business, regardless of size, needs to take POPIA into consideration and put certain things in place in order to comply. In this talk, Ross will dive into a few of the critical items that a speaker will need to take care of, such as mailing lists, training registers, storytelling, and more.
Guest Speaker: Ross Saunders
Ross specialises in data protection, raising awareness and educating people on what can, and does, go wrong in data protection. As an international speaker, facilitator, and consultant, Ross demystifies technical, security, and legal topics to make them accessible to everyone. Ross has a particular passion for data privacy, having been a victim of identity theft and seeing first-hand the impact of data breaches on both individuals and organisations. In short, he helps companies keep people’s personal information safe and secure.
Ross holds a Master’s Degree in the Management of Technology and Innovation, is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and an EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH v10). He is a past president of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa (PSASA), and is a Professional Member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS) and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Question for the Breakaway Session:
We would like you to have the full benefit of hearting from the expert on the topic. We therefore would like you to think through the following questions, which we will discuss during the Breakaway Session before Ross talks:
1. Where do you have personal data stored when it comes to your business?
2. What do you think it means to have a “data breach”?
An Important Question to consider after Listening to Ross Saunders
What is the main thing you are going to do differently going forward?
I look forward to hosting!
Dr Maureen Tong
Pretoria Chapter President
