Joburg Chapter Meeting

Dear Members, Colleagues and Friends

Isolation fatigue be damned! Aren’t we lucky to have Zoom and other virtual conferencing platforms at our disposal to be able to continue to ‘meet’ and connect over the past few months and into the foreseeable future. Let’s also celebrate the fact that speaking is one of the professions that has been able to continue over this time, albeit very differently. Let’s celebrate all the learning and pivoting being embraced by so many of our members and the support they have been giving each other too.

In light of the fact that we are all presenting in virtual spaces, I would like to bring your attention to two important items of interest:

  1. The Virtual and Hybrid Speaker Mastermind (VHSM)The purpose of this group is to share skills, tricks and techniques about virtual speaking and how we have adapted to the new way of working. The first meeting took place this week and was fabulous.
  2. Mid Term Convention 2-3 August 2020.Save the Date for our PSASA Speak to the Future mid-term convention on 2 and 3 October 2020.The event will set the stage for the future of the speaking profession. Your Johannesburg Chapter is spearheading the organisation of this virtual event and we are so excited about our plans. You don’t want to miss this! Watch your inboxes for the Early Bird offer coming soon.

Being Women’s Month we have an all-female line up of speakers to inspire you. Our own Dr D, Dorianne Weil, will present From Adversity to Insight and Beyond. We live in a time of unprecedented uncertainty generating fear, anxiety and sadness. How do we navigate this journey? Can we prevent post-traumatic stress and generate post-traumatic growth? How do we recognise and sustain lessons and not let suffering “go to waste”. Dori is a highly respected and experienced speaker, a clinical and organisational psychologist who has addressed over 100 000 people and facilitated workshops in 57 countries. She also has her own radio and TV shows and is extensively quoted in the media.

Dori will be followed by Dr Puleng Makhoalibe who was voted one of the 2019 Women Leaders of the World and who is a recognised and awarded global leader in creativity and innovation. She will present an interactive session entitled Reframing COVID 19 to Unleash Our Creative Potential. According to various studies, creativity is the number 1 soft skill that organisations are looking for in 2020 and beyond, but as we grow up we lose this critical skill. In this session, she will share practical insights and tools to reframe COVID 19 into a catalyst to help uncover your own creativity in order to innovate, reframe, rethink and reimagine the future. This session will empower you with tools to unleash your creative intelligence and critical thinking in order to harness your whole brain in problem-solving.

These two outstanding women will inspire and raise you up. Book your seat now.
