This mail serves to notify you that the PSASA Presidents Council has called a special meeting to be held on 12 November 2015 to discuss certain changes to be made to the structure of the Presidents Council.
The meeting will be held on the same date as the Gauteng chapter meeting and all PSASA members and associates are cordially invited to join us at this meeting, as we require a vote to take place.

Proposed conversion of the Presidents Council to an Executive Council
To improve the effectiveness of the leadership body of the PSASA.
The Presidents Council is mostly compiled of people who have a one year period of service (the chapter presidents) and who are also busy with their responsibilities in their chapters. This inevitably leads to a huge workload for the national president or nothing gets done. In addition, while the leadership succession (deputy – president – past) seems to make sense, in practice the workload still seems to fall on the president who then becomes past president and has probably had enough.
We have agreed that one year in a position does not lend itself to being able to complete any serious tasks so the PSASA has suffered.
I propose that we have a four year term of office for the leadership of the PSASA. Leaders would be elected as vice president, then the following year become deputy president, the year after be president and then past president. These leadership members would need to be a Professional Member in good standing for at least 3 years and elected by the members at an AGM.
In addition I propose that we have two or three council members (professional or associate members) who will be elected by the executive council and who do not necessarily see themselves becoming president but are willing to serve the association. These elected council members would be prepared to sit on the executive council for a minimum of two years and can be re-elected for a further two if desired. It is likely that the past presidents
would put at least one member forward as a council member.
The chapter presidents already have a very busy job and would sit on the council in a nonexecutive position in much the same way as they do at the moment. They would have a vote of course and be included in all the national decisions but they would not have specific responsibilities in the council.
With the above structure we would be able to develop solid strategies that have buy in from the leadership and council members who will be on council to see them through. We will also be able to get specialists as council members who can contribute to the development of the PSASA without committing to a leadership role.
I propose therefor we develop a new Executive Council made up as follows:
Plus two/three longer term (two years) council members
Chapter presidents in a non-executive position
