As the new president of the Cape Chapter of the PSASA, we had our first meeting on the 3rd of May.
We did not have a meeting in April, due to all of the public holidays.
This meeting was titled our April Meeting In May.
We had two guest speakers. Bruce Wade unpacked his vision and the direction that he wanted to take the PSASA in during his term in office. What I really enjoyed about his presentation, was how he broke it down into easy bite sized pieces, 10 of them.
The Cape Chapter is looking at those 10 and decided to make each one of those 10 an educational slot. At each meeting we’re going to look at a different aspect of the business of speaking.
Our 2nd speaker of the evening was Cindy Pivacic. Cindy owns a company called the PR Ninja. She shared with us some extremely important and pertinent tips that as speakers, trainers and facilitators, we should be doing to get our names out there to reach the point where when people think of a particular subject a name “jumps” out at them, the “industry expert”.
For example, my main focus is on stress management. And if I follow all of Cindy’s tips, then whenever people think stress management, my name will pop up in their mind. We need to be in the public eye. Now a days it’s easier than ever to get up there with social media.
Three of the important tips that I picked up are the following:
- Consistency, consistency of both how often you post, don’t make it sporadic and erratic, but also consistency of the message that you’re sending.
- Be on as many platforms as possible. I have a particular platform that I enjoy using far more than any of the others. That does not necessarily mean that all of my target market are going to be on the same social media platform. Take that same content and share it across platforms.
You don’t have to spend hours and hours designing different things for different platforms, create one thing. - One that resonated with me was be authentic!
